Mr. Burkholder joined the Wayne Township Public Schools in 2015 after fifteen years of service as a Teacher, Vice Principal, and Principal with the Plainfield Public Schools. Prior to moving to central office in 2018, Mr. Burkholder was the Principal at Randall Carter Elementary School for the past three years. As part of his responsibilities as the Assistant Director of Student Support Services, Mr. Burkholder oversees all Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying (HIB) investigations and currently supports our school counselors in implementing the No Place for Hate initiative annually in all Wayne schools. He serves as the District's Homeless Liaison, DCCP Liaison, District Testing Coordinator, Residency Coordinator, and as the District’s Affirmative Action Officer. Mr. Burkholder is also responsible for mandatory staff training through the Safe Schools program. As coordinator of federal and state grants, Mr. Burkholder works with district administrators to interpret student instructional data, evaluate student socio-emotional needs, and to assess professional development needs for WTPS staff in order to support our Title I school initiatives, design and implement programming for ELL students, and to plan professional development opportunities for our staff. Mr. Burkholder has a strong conviction that by providing effective instruction and ensuring proper support, students of all backgrounds and abilities can and will succeed.
Mr. Burkholder holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical, Health, and Adapted Education from West Virginia University and a Master of Science degree in Educational Administration from the University of Scranton. Mr Burkholder has also attended a number of educational post-graduate programs on school leadership and intervention programming, most recently completing the School Turnaround Leaders program at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education in 2015. Mr. Burkholder was awarded a citation by the New Jersey Legislature in 2015 as a result of being recognized by the NAACP as a “Freedom Fund Award Winner” for educational commitment and community service.
